One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples". Luke 11:1
Have you ever tried to pray and found yourself too distracted to concentrate? Your mind started to wander and before you knew it you were thinking of everything but your prayer? Well don't be discouraged; even the disciples needed help with how to pray. Jesus gave them a wonderful example in Luke 11:2-4. It is the Lords prayer. Let us take a look at this prayer.
Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name - Bring your praise before the Lord. "Father, I praise you today as I come before your throne. I thank you that you sent Jesus to die on the cross so that my sins would be forgiven and I am cleansed by the blood of the Lamb. I thank you that through Jesus I can come boldly before your Throne today. You are Holy Lord, You are Mighty, there is none like you."
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven - Pray for your country, the nations, political and spiritual leaders, your church, your pastor, a harvest in the land, your spouse, your loved ones, yourself, your health.
Give us this day our daily bread - Pray and ask God for your provision. For your finances, your work, your business, what you need to pay your bills. Be specific in your needs. He is your Father and He wants you to pour your heart out to Him.
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us - Ask God to forgive you but more then that, repent of your sins. To repent goes beyond being sorry, it means you will stop doing it. Ask Him to show you your sins so that you can change your ways. Then set your will to forgive those who have sinned against you. If you find this difficult to do, share that with God and ask for His help.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil - This is a good place to read Ephesians 6:10-18 - Put on the full armor of God. We live in a world full of temptation everywhere from the television, to the Internet, music, movies, etc. Speak Ephesians 6:10-18 as a declaration of faith over yourself and your loved ones. But be prepared, the devil will try to throw you off track, but "Stand Firm".
For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory - Now and Forever - This is a declaration of your faith. Declare that you know His Word to be true. Begin to praise Him again. Remember, He is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory. Hallelujah and Amen!
